Anything other than the traditional deck finishes,I would use Cabot stains they really do last.

Times like this when I like to refer a painter. I stay friendly with a few. They do stuff like this, and I wash decks and houses for them......

I also would use Cabots or Benjamin Moore solid stains. When I do an estimate for a solid color I charge a much higher price and if they go for it I'll do it. Time consuming yes but if they are willing to pay me what I want then I'll do it.
Why guys pass up staining a deck a solid color when they can get alot more money and pass it to a painter thats there loss and my gain.
As far as painting goes, that I will pass off to the painters. Staining I'll do.
Of course doing a transparent stain is much easier to apply thats why I charge alot more for solids.

John,

I'm just spoiled by using Ready Seal........no lap marks, streaks, or backbrushing. Show me a solid stain that offers that, and I'll start doing them tomorrow.

I too am a firm believer in ready seal. I am trying to use nothing but RS. The white stain on the above mentioned deck is in good shape. I will possibly be able to get by with just a cleaning. It has a little mildew on it, but I didn't notice anywhere where it was failing. Hopefully, the cleaning will doit, will try to do it with an oxygen based cleaner, maybe a little less harsh on the stain vs an oxalic acid. But I am not sure the O2 based cleaner will take off the mildew/mold. Any thoughts/comments!

I know some will disagree with using it on wood......but...........I say

That will cure the mildew/mold and potentially not damage the finish.......use a 40 degree tip with minimal pressure.

Bleach is ok if you Rinse, Rinse, Rinse, Rinse... and Rinse. You Might want to try Wolman's Extreme. We sometimes get requests for 2 tone decks... White Handrails, natural flooring... we use Extreme for the solid. --- Don F.
