(storm drain) ; even if your using biodegradable chemicals safe for the environment?
No such thing. Nothing down a storm draid but rain water.
Try not to get caught up in the hype around "Green" Chemicals. You'll waste money and also time because most don't work very well anyhow. The key to being "Green" is in the steps you take to be responsible. It is all about the proccesses and methods you use.
The absolute worst thing I hear constantly from the manfg of "Other" chemicals is how bad bleach is. Yet it can be bought at Grcery Store from a shelf easily accessible by toddlers and then used on folks under garments. It is al about the person handling the bleach or the proccess in which it is used. House Mothers know exactly what I mean when I say that they know how to use the Bleach safely but not to let the teenage boy do the Laundry.
More than anything you do, you will need to understand chemicals and procedures to set you apart from the guy down the street with a truck with four different tires trying to convince customer that his "Bio-Degradable-earth-friendly-green" product is better than your professional knowledge of your SAFE system.
