Here's a quick brain shut down one----A few years ago I couldn't figure for the life of me why a swival on one of my surfers went bad so fast. It spun when you pushed it but it did nothing when water ran thru it. A total mental meltdown. So later that Day I ordered another Swival that cost around $175 with extra shipping because I always needed at least 2 machines working in case one breaks down.

So I put the new swival in and same problem the bars won't spin with water running thru it.

Anyone want to take a guess why this happened??

Sounds like you pulled the tips off the bar to check for clogs and after installing the new swivel, forgot to put them back in. Or worse, you forgot to turn on an inline ball valve.

Common somebody has to nail this one. Think about the problem. When you get it your going to say...Darn thats right and then you'll say "At least it didn't cost me $175+ to figure this out. Its really an easy answer that everyone here deals with everytime they use there surface cleaner.

1- bar clogged
2- tips clogged
3- trigger gun went bad
4- Some Surface cleaners have a by pass valve on them right where the swivel is, and if you dont make sure it is closed water will just shoot out the bottom and wont go through the bar and or tips. Therefore no spin and no water flow.

your surface cleaner had a Chevy bowtie on it?

Nothing with one of those runs for very long without needing fixed :D

I was say the angle of the nozzles were loose and got knocked out of alignment.

Nothing was loose, Pipe tape and all orings were fine. The tips were replaced with new ones and they were the right size for the amount of water and PSI going thru them but still a problem.....anyone???????

Marks licking his lips cause he's seen this for sure many times... but if you do concrete cleaning your bound to run into this problem sooner or later and if your following this post its a money saver[wsmile]

Ok, by the way this thread is going, I dont believe you really had a problem with the surface cleaner. No problem with tips, cloggs, gun, o rings, etc. Therefore im going to back up and go upstream where I shouold have started at. If im in the field it is where I should start. check out and see if the water filter is clogged. If it isnt, check the unloader and make sure it isnt stuck in bypass. So I am going to assume that being you had water going thru to surface cleaner it just wasnt enough water volume to make it spin. So it has to be either,
1-filter clogged and not letting enough water thru
2-unloader stuck in bypass and not letting enough water thru

If those arnt it, My next question is did you have correct water pressure and flow to the surface cleaner?

Im gona figure this out,

The water runs thru the tips at the correct pressure yet the bar wont spin. I Turn the surface machine over and the water is coming out of the tips @15 degree's and around 3000psi. So the degree and the pressure is fine. The water is just shooting out of the tips but the bar stays still. I Turn the bar by hand carefully so I don't catch the water blasting my arm. The bar turns but as soon as I stop pushing the bar and the water still running thru the tips the bar comes to a stop.

Why Why Why???? The bar turns easy with the water going thru it or not yet it won't spin freely or even spin at all with the water going thru it. There is nothing stuck and the bar does not hit anything when you spin it around.

You can see why I was baffled yet after I spent the money and put the new Swival in and the problem still was happening suddenly a little late by a few days the light bulb in my head goes off as to why this is happening.

Anyone???

you got both tips pointed the same direction, not opposed to each other to make it turn.

BINGO---WINNER
Sweeper you were determined to win and determination brings a man about in this world and bang---you got it.

Ant was close when he said a couple of post back that the angles of the nozzles were loose and they got knocked out of allignment.

I almost picked Ant as the winner because part of his answer was right but the cause wasn't.

Sweepers answer was the true and accurate one. I had the Elbows on each end of the bar facing straight downward so that meant the tips were facing straight downward to the ground. They should have been just ever so slightly tilted opposite to each other so the Bar can spin when the water shoots thru the tips.

So Sweeper come on down and clame the prize. Ant's to smart anyway. He needs to win a much higher caliber question such as how to make alot more money thru different types of Marketing..

This was alot of fun! I enjoy trying to figure out problems, Hope we have more of these. It's always good to learn from these things if you dont know the answer, you learn even more. And if anyone ever says they kniow it all, its time for them to get out of the business, as you will never know all.
