The Whisper Wash is a Dog

I know not to long ago I told everyone how great the Whisper Wash surface cleaner worked for me. I also stated how poor their customer service is.

Well the service is still bad and now that I had a chance to try another surface clean. Their surface cleaner is a complete dog. Mine went down so I borrowed a friend’s old beat up whirle away.

He said well you can use it but it's getting old and doesn't work as well. I tried it and for an old beat up surface cleaner. It out performed the Whisper Wash by 10 times easy. Meaning this old beat up Whirle Away was way better than a brand or a rebuilt Whisper Wash.

I couldn't believe the difference. How ever the wheels are a pain in the A$$. They easily get granules in them and do not work as well; it becomes a battle at times.

But my friend said that he buys cheap $2 wheels at home depot and they work better than the $20 per wheel that comes with the Whirle Away.

But regardless of the wheels this machine doubled my time and I rarely have to go over a spot twice. This is the 18 inch unit. They have a hover unit now like the Whisper Wash. I think its 20 inches and if I had to bet it's probably great.

I highly recommend it and it’s at least $100 cheaper.

I've never used anything but a Whirl-A-Way and I too love it. I've had mine for about a year (18" w/wheels) and even using it everyday (driveways mostly) the only problem I've had is the front wheels fell apart a few weeks ago. I think that if I had been more regular in lubing them, they would have lasted even longer. I paid $13 ea for my wheels...I bought 4 and replaced them all...saving the back 2 for spares. When the wheels are "fresh" they work so smoothly, you don't even notice they are there.

Dan,

If you don't want that old Wisper Wash anymore, box it up and send it my way. Maybe I can use it for spare parts to keep mine going, till I can afford something better.

I have the 24" Whirl-a-way which is now 7 yrs old. I think I changed the casters on it twice. I love this surface cleaner one of the best moves I ever made.

The only draw back to this Yellow surface cleaner is it can not have hot water running through it. I did that once and I warped the cover. Also you can't fold down the handles. Besides that this surface cleaner is real light and easy to use.

I was thinking of purchasing a whisper wash surface cleaner but after reading Dans post I am now having doubs about that.

I run hot water through mine all the time with no problems...in fact, it is rated for 180 deg, so if it warped, you should have had recourse with Whirl-A-Way.

The handles don't fold, but if you use a bolt with a cotter pin, instead of the nut and bolt that comes with it, you can take it apart/put it back together real easy. (P.S. Carry spare pins, though zip ties work great in a pinch!)

My Whisper Washer Big Guy 28" gets beat to hell and still works great.

Guess the reason there are other brands is to please all of us.

Dan if you don't send it to Roger send it to me, want to make folding handle out of it.

Why is it that some of us have no problem with the company and others do.

I have a good customer relationship with them. Always prompt and fast with their service.

Well,

My only problem with them is they never respond to an email. But that isn't my main point. My point is you don't really know what you have until you try something else.

My Whisper Wash lasted a good 3 to 4 years and I thought it was that best thing on the planet. Not knowing any better. When it went down I bought a new swivel, and bar from them. It lasted under a year and the bar had stripped threads and I never was able to use it. They claimed that was impossible, because they test everything before they send it out.

Well I have no reason to lie about a stripped thread. Anyway, because of my down time I borrowed my friend’s old beat up Whirle Away and as I said it out preformed the Whisper Wash by a land slide.

Jon like you I never tried any other and was very satisfied with their product. But im telling you! The Whirle Away is so much better than the Whisper Wash it's almost a unbelievable.

I have tried the Big Guy model too and it was worse than the Classic which I own. Now that I am in Texas the driveways here are black from mildew. They are much tougher to clean than dirt alone. I had to crawl with the Whisper Wash and on most driveways it was like I was cleaning it twice. Covering the same area 2 or 3 times.

Even after that I would have shadowing left behind. With the Whirle away I move much faster and have no need to cover the area twice.

So when the time comes to get a new cleaner. If I were you I would consider the Whirle Away. Because of its performance and better price. I am referring to the 18 inch model. Not sure how well the 24 or larger size compare to the Big Guy you own.

Have a great day! :D

Dan I would agree that since I have never tried any other brand I cannot compare fairly so if anyone in my area has a Whirl-A-Way and your willing to let me test please contact me.

Have heard and seen that name from day one but don't know who makes but doing my search online find that the 24" one sells for under $600, considerably less then the Big Guy.

I will say I don't like how the trigger gun is on he handle, seems it should be "inside" and not on top, does that ever make your hand tired? is the handle adjustable as it also looks like it stands tall?

I do need to see and test one, if it is as good as I am hearing I would buy on the spot once I tested it although the best testing is done on the job.

The more I know about it the better I can judge before buying and I do need to test first or have a money back with shipping deal and no restock charge.

Jon,
If you move to the East coast I'll lend you my 24" Whirl-a-way..out of season that is which is Dec-March. As for the rest of the time I need that machine...

The Whirl-a-way needs to be greased every now and then. I still prefer my Elite Surface Cleaner which is similiar to your Big Guy but bigger by 2"s over the Whir-a-way for large Flat Surfaces but for Residential jobs the Whirl-a-way rules just don't put 200degrees through it or it will melt/warp...for $599 you get what you paid for.

Did you happen to see in one of the PW Mag's awhile back where this company was showing surface cleaners that were up to 6'in diameter. I wouldn't mind having a 48" Surface cleaner for Commercial work...
