Time to winterize again

I was surprised nobody has recently started yet, another thread regarding winterizing as we enter the long, cold, dark season (at least here in MI).

I have read all of the different suggestions and methods of winterizing, however none of them mentions anything about winterizing your system when you also use a water softener. I have one in my setup and was wondering how I should winterize the whole system? Last year I simply kept a milkhouse heater with a thermostat set on 45 degrees near my equipment. I would prefer not to do that this year because I no longer hold shares in the electric company here. So, how should I winterize" My setup is as follows:

300' garden hose (inlet) that leads to a digital water softener, which is made of PLASTIC...25' garden hose from water softener to a 275 gal water tank...3' hose to the PW'er...4' hose to 150' high pressure hose (outlet).

I really don't think it would be a good idea to run antifreeze through a water softener...would it?

Bryan,

I am not familair with your
set up, but the way I see it, you
have 3 options.

(-1-) Climate control Heater keeping equipment warm.

(-2-) Antifreeze / alcohol to prevent freezing.

(-3-) Evacuate the water, no water no freeze.

Everytime I'm finished, I just go to a near by gas station and use an air hose, to clear all of the water out of my lines/burner.

I take my water softener inside along with my DI tanks. I just blow out all my hose reels with air and anti freeze the machines and coils.

Yes, I have the digital H2O softener that is 95% plastic. Getting that thing out of the trailer (while full of salt) is going to be a PAIN! I guess I will deal with that, and blow out the water in the machine and hoses. I don't feel like using antifreeze with a 275 gal. water tank. I doubt that I will do any work during the freezing months this year, anyway.
