Using Surface Cleaner on Roof

I would try it on a masonary tile roof, but if thinking about doing a composition shingle roof, I would be hesitant due to the psi coming out against the granular surface which is already weak from weather elements.
I use a 40 degree tip designed for 10 or 12 gpm flow on my 5.6gpm @ 4000 psi machine, it brings it below 1000 psi with full water flow to move the dirt/mildew. Still there is granular loss on roof.

I've never cleaned a roof and I need to go on an estimate on Monday. It is a regular shingled roof with lots of mold and mildew. How should I price it? Do I need to use chemicals or just hot water? Do you stand on the roof or do it from a ladder?

We clean roofs on a regular basis, and there are three main factors to concider.1. the pitch 2.how many levels 3.and type of roof it is and how dirty it is. The steeper the pitch the more it may cost and how many levels there are plays into that also. some times you only have to clean one side also.We use a sureflo pump to put our solutions on and cold water wash to remove. put your solution on from gutters to the top small sections at a time and rinse from the top down. We charge .30 to.50 per sq. ft. If possible we get on the roof if not we use ladders or lifts such as the case of a slate roof we done that had moss on it,needless to say that one brought home a nice fee

Anyway I hope this helps.

Need to use something that will kill the funus, mildew, mold and algea... Can pick up something at home depot... Have not try any of it yet so I cat't comment on it...Just something to think about...

We've ordered solutions from Fla. especially for this type of fungus called GlesocapsaMagma ( in other words fungus

and wound up spending a small fortune, anyway any good algaecide or fungicide will work from your local hardware store and cold water rinse.I've even used a solution called SC-200 made by Spartan. It's an all around good cleaner,it's authorized also for use by the USDA and carries an A1 rating. We use it for a lot of our cleaning needs.hope this helped.

Why cold water wash. Is that all you have or is there a reason to use it over a hot water wash?

No its not all I have.I have a Landa unit on a 16 ft. trailer that has steam and hot water capabilities but I also have a set up for roofs only. steam or heat is not necessary to do a great job your solutions do most of the work for you, just simply rinse it away, it also cuts down on fuel cost and frees up my Landa to do other things such as the rest of the house or another job.We carry two separate cold water units for when heat isn't used,we also use a sureflo pump to apply our roof solutions

Where can you get the sureflow pump? Does it run on battery or electric? How expensive are they to buy? How high does it reach or do you have to go on the roof to use. We get calls from mobile homes but have not done any since most of them you cannot stand on to well. Do you also use the sureflow for apply on the house? Lots of questions but important to know. Thanks Anna

We have the Sure-flo pump, with cart and 20 gallon tank, battery powered, including hose, wand, etc. just like the one at E----Spec for $189.95, same price. This is a great buy and a nice system for applying chems.

Sure,
consider it done. Would send you a pic of mine but it's in my van at another location where I'm reworking my trailer unit. Hope to beable to post some pictures of it when I finish with the Motor pump conversion. Re-painted some spots, replaced hoses, injectors, etc. just waiting on some parts for the 20 Hp Honda, mainly the muffler, control box and controls.

hey tim,

that is a good deal for that sprayer glenn has, you could build it for cheaper, but not enough cheaper to make it worth your while in my opinion. have you already got that 3000@4gpm machine?? I have one for sale if you are interested (3000@4gpm), its a pretty good deal, 100hrs on it. Email me if you like, jfife81721@aol.com.

take care and merry christmas,

glenn, thanks for getting back with me about the TUFF machines. We'll talk after xmas,
