I am surprised that wall mart would terminate any contract just because of crappy work, cheap is most important for wal-mart

We did about a dozen Wal-Marts last year. Not service contracts, but as a sub to two separate general contractors who perform all the remodeling and retrofits. They all average about $4000 each project. Met with two of the big dogs from Wal-Mart on the second project we did. Spent an hour with them, hearing about all the stories of the dishonorable work done by the majority of pressure washing contractors.

This is actually great news. These compliant contractors stood against USM and refused to accept their lowball offers. Then, when non compliant "contractors" accepted their despicable offer, these non compliant contractors where busted, and hopefully fined so much it will put them out of business.

Do not engage with these "all in one" service "providers". Doing so is undermining the true, professional and compliant PW contractors. If and when you see a "contractor" washing a Wal-Mart and not reclaiming 100%, go talk with the store manager and request the contact information for the regional manager.

A contract is a contract. There are a few dishonest "contractors" out there that will purchase a cheap vacuum system, show it to the Wal-Mart decision maker(s), win the contract then never, ever use the reclaim system. Some are even dumb enough to brag about this fact on the Internet.

I was asked to look at the USM deal a while back from a colleague here in Calif. I did a cursory review of USM and then made some phone calls about what they (USM) was proposing at the time relating to pricing and etc for pressure washing. I didn't sign up nor submit my paperwork. I guess in hind sight I am glad that I did not.

I think what Jim said is a good course of action if YOU are interested in "possibly" getting in on your local Wal Mart...Contact a local manager and find out who the Regional person is and contact them.

We told USM from the start we would not work for them for many reasons. Here is just a quick couple of them. !- sign a no compete for 2 years, when it was our stores to begin with, I dont think so. 2- After they pay you they will auto matic deduct an additional 5% for a kick back, thats illeagle in calif. 3- only pay you if they get paid, couldnt careless if they ever get paid, they have you do the work then they pay you no matter what. 4- you have to take them to court where they are only, Dont think so, im in calif and if I have to take you to court I will do it here period.

Now to move on, You were dumb enough to sign there contract, they have been fired, but you have a non compete clause that you signed, now you cant work for Walmart for 2 years with out breaking the contract. what are you going to do now? Sure glad I didnt sign that contract, cause I bet they will hunt everyone down and make sure they dont work for walmart because they are going to be loosing a ton of money now and I sure they will try and get what they can from contractors that signed.

Just be smart and dont work for these national companies, they wont buy the equipment to do it them selves, they wont get anyone to work for them, and they will fold like a folding chair.

Bye Bye USM you are getting what you deserve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the insight Sweeper. I'm sure dozens of "contractors" were foolish enough to sign that outrageous contract. Unfortunately all industries will always have a percentage of uneducated, desperate "contractors" that have very little to no business sense.

Good job standing your ground. I hope you regain your lost contracts.

+10...great post....

We were asked to to submit our paper work as I mentioned before. I didn't even want to get through the front door with the (USM)

While some waste their time bickering and whining about CWA regulations, I personally can't keep up with all the RFP's and scheduling.

We're very content with our ongoing relationships with the contractors we work with in relation to Wal-Mart's.
