WE PLEDGE ACTION NEEDED TODAY!

I just received this e-mail today, thought I would pass it on:

9th Circuit Court of Appeals Upholds the Banning of "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance

Dear WePledge.com supporter,

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld a decision banning the use of the term "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. The issue now goes to the Supreme Court. Help WePledge.com get a constitutional amendment passed which will keep the phrase "under God" in the Pledge. God to WePledge.com, sign the petition, and then forward it to all your friends and family! Do it now before it is too late!

I certainly don't want to start a political/religious debate here, but there is no "separation of church and state" in the constitution. Go read the 1st Amendment, which is where folks erroneously get the concept of separation of church and state.

Here, I'll post it....

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. ".

It says nothing about government entities having nothing to do with anything even remotely religious, as some mis-interpret it to say. All it says is that congress shall pass no law respecting a particular religion, and will not prohibit you from exercising your right to believe and worship who, what, and how as you see fit.

As to whether the pledge is a violation of this, or whether the suggested amendment violates the first amendment is a question I'll leave to others. My take on it is this...If you wish to worship God, thank God for America, say the pledge as you wish, etc, do it. Whether it is a law or not really doesn't matter. You can't legislate worship, morality, or even respect. Passing a law will not make one person love God more or less, respect God more or less, or worship God more or less. These things come from a knowledge of God, which comes through experience and education, not legislation.

Just my opinion.....

I agree with Oneness, The first amendment was to keep goverment out of the church, not to keep the church out of goverment. All our founders came from a very oppressive state run religous situation. And they wanted FREEDOM to worship GOD and not be dictated on how or where or when. Just my .02
