Monday I will make an attempt to change the weight class .........
Im a lil under!

How hard is it to up the weight class?

I know I have to take it to a inspection garage for them to check it out, I talked to my state rep. and they showed me a site to download for the form.

I knew I was a lil. heavy but holy hockey sticks I didnt think it was that heavy!!!!!!

Dan S,

Better do it first thing. I would hate to see you pay the fine that comes with that. You have any weight stations that you have to cross ? How bout the State Troopers ? Do they have portables ? This could be a serious problem for you if they do.

In my area Gord it is called D.O.T ... and yes they have portables ......... I have been stopped before but when they see my name on the door they just say go ahead............ but I know iM PUSHING my luck~

Hello Dan S,

Check the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of your equipment. The tag will also tell you how much the axles and suspension are rated for.

You can buy a larger plate for your equipment but you could still get a fine if you are over these ratings, gross or each axle!

Of course if your weight is real high you may need a different drivers license!

Hello Dan S,

Our titles here show the size of the plate that you are buying in pounds. You can plate the unit for more than it can haul, but if the Man scales it out you may be in for a fine for gross, and per axle.

Give you an example. My old Dodge has a GVWR of 25.500 lbs. I put permant mounted plates on it for 30,000 pounds. When we were fully loaded we weighed around 27,000 pounds.

We never did get scaled but if we were, I would have been fined for being over the GVWR of the truck. I would also have been fined for being over weight on the front axle because it is rated for only 7000 pounds and we had about 8500 on the axle! We had about 12,000 pounds in the first 5 feet of the front of this box!

You may want to contact a dealer that sells the type of vehicle that you have. They should be able to tell you where the ID tag is located or at the very least tell you what that truck would normally be rated for.

The reason that I got these GMC's is because they have heavy front axles (11,000 pounds). Even weighing 34,000 pounds fully loaded with the Red we are not over weight on the front axle.
