what is this?

any ideas what this is.
My idea is that it is hard water stains where the water has pooled. however, the brick has a sealer on it and I think the sealer is permamantly discolored. when I went to estimeate, I took some diluted de-limer and scrubbed it and nothing happened. I did the same with sodium hydroxide 12% straight, nothing happened. Both times I just rinsed with a little water and towell dryed.
Will this come off when I pressure wash or will I have to strip the sealer?

PS The maint. cheif said his guy did this with a pressure washer, but I remember looking at this property about 6 months ago and it looked the same

need more info..

Where would have the hard water came from?

Hard water stain will(sometimes) have a tannish redish or rust color look..

If its has a brown burn look color as it looks to me in the picture a contractor could have caused the damage.

Different angles and close ups helps when posting pictures of trouble areas.

It looks to me as if the residue is from the marble in the background. If this is the case....Prosoco Products. Should come right up.

We have very hard water just in the rain here. my thinking is that it could be that and some limestone leaching when run off. It is only right next to the wall and where it pools.

I fine that hard to believe, not saying it isn't so just hard to believe..

And to be honest it looks as tho a powerwasher contractor did do the damage as to the only along the wall and pools. If the other contractor used a acid to clean the marble it could have done the damage if he didn't know the acid would discolor or turn the sealer a white looking color,Here is no fix other then redo.

Not stupid first thought.

At the end of the glass there looks to be like a run off around the edge and looking down the sidewalk every few feet the color has the same as the one at the start.hmmmm wonder if it has a cloudy look, tak anuffer look far 3 ents.

larry, cold weather we dont got here. Only thing used on it was water by in house employee, no chems. It was like this previously though, before cleaning. just verified that. I have him leaning towards stripping and resealing.
thanks guys for the responses.
