WHEN NOT KNOWING WHAT TO CHARGE ?

Hi Folks! All good info. All jobs can't be priced by sq. footage. Time and material, certainly come into play, at times. Walt, I like the "ring" system on the map, good idea. Regards, Ken S. ------------------ "The BEST job at a fair price"

Extend pump life & reduce hand fatigue

Walt, Sounds dangerous, if your working with thousands psi's. How do you shut off the pressure to the gun? Use a ball valve shut off or somthing? Ken S. ------------------ "The BEST job at a fair price"

How much sales work do you do?

Bigdog, Advertise, advertise, advertise. Set a budget. If your going for residential put a 3-5 line ad in local papers, especially if there is a "free one"(thrown on lawns once a week). The first few months may be slow, but as your ad is seen there on a steady basis the calls will start coming...

    One Time

Jordan, I think the key is the "Limited Warranty". A sealer by itself will usually allow the wood to turn "gray" after time, now if used in conjunction with a pigmented stain...maybe! 7 years is along time for something in the elements to repel rain, pollutants, etc. I have had excellent...

    Techniques for spindles and rails

Hi Shawn, I have used lambs wool paint & stain mitts. You put them on like a glove. Can get messy ,so I put a latex type glove on first. Then, just dunk your mitted hand in the stain and wipe it around the spindles. Down side is you have to throw the mitt away after use, but the lambs wool...

    Sprayer Recomendation

Ken, I would lean towards an actual airless sprayer. A good electric one, is the Titan Epic 440hp. Put a 100 feet of hose on it with a 2-3' extension wand, a Grac contractor series gun with a RAC5 tip setup and your good to go. But, you will need 110v. power source, and part with about $975.00...

    Pool Cleaning?

Shawn, Here, in Fla. we have pool service companies, or pool supply outfits that have guys(and gals) go out on routes to service residential and commercial pools. And believe it..They must be licensed to do this work, actually take a test to know about pool cleaning and such. But, remember...

    metal building

Todd, Not knowing what the building actually looks like, and material made of(alum. or galv.steel). Here's my ideas: 1. Clean with at least a 3000psi, 3.5 - 5 gpm pres. washer. Apply chlorine with a cleaner/surfactant added. The key is to get contaminants off(mold...

    Damage???????????????new pictures 02/12/01

Dave (the devil's advocate), True, there is no industry standard. For most, no licensing required. That is one reason why, all you fellas/gals who do contract washing for a living must "take the bull by the horns"(sort of speaking), and set standards for your customers/clients to see.I really...

    Damage???????????????new pictures 02/12/01

Hey Ron, Good photo work! But, I wouldn't push the issue too hard with the "higher ups",(could be somebodies brother-in law, you know?). Concrete is guaranteed to get hard, if stressed with poor base and water penetration, crack, and get ugly. Most people don't care. It's like tires, we ride...

    Total time?

Hey Mike, Your talkin to "Cardboard King" here, try takin' 1x2 firring strips if the cardboard flops around and secure it with duct tape. We've even made spray shields out of cardboard and 1x2's for handles and take duct tape and double over the edge to make it a sharper clean edge that can...

    Total time?

Just to add to Cliff,s comments on spray boards; we use corrugated cardboard. Go to the appliance stores, motorcycle shops, etc. and "recruit" fresh cardboard boxes(usually direct us to the back or dumpster area) that have some length to them, slice 'um down with a utility knife, cut out...

    Update on Dead truck

Jon, Glad to hear that it can be repaired, and the Ins. Co. is going to cover it. Leads to another question in my mind: The Ins. Co. makes you feel like they did you a hugh favor, covering the damage. In reality, that's one of the reasons for having insurance, to cover a loss. Could never...

    Total time?

Hey Fellas! That cleaning and sealing time. Is that all done in the same day? Or is it a two trip process? Any drying time needed after the cleaning, and before stain application? What is the preferred; oil based or waterbased stains? ------------------
