Having to pay

Some people have posted ideas about charging to get on this board, and it seems that some get nervous when they see a guest on this board. If a persons logged on from a computer other than their own, they show up as guests unless they post. I thought this board and others like it where for everyone and not just a select few. I started my business 10 months ago and these boards helped tramendously. Newbees dont post in the begining because they are trying to learn and after a while with some experiance they feel more comfortable or can share something from their own experiances. It seems like some people are leaning tword an exclusive club here and I dont think its fair. I'm sorry if I come off wrong to some of you, but its my opinion. Thanks Tom

Tom, Fair enough. I agree with what you said. I did pretty much the same thing when it came to these message boards. I also use different computers so alot of times I come over as a guest looking in. These boards in my mind are for people with common interest to share ideas and to learn about new ideas along the way. If you participate even better. If not there is nothing wrong about just looking in to read and learn and hopefully in the future you can also paticipate in discussions with your ideas and experiences. Hopefully they don't come to a day when they expect money from people to participate. If that happens then these message boards will not be as good as they are today with the open atomosphere of unlimited learning.

Tom,

I don't think that day will ever come. You and any other guest are welcome here.

Just don't hestitate to post, if you have a question, or if you have anything to add to a conversation on the board. The more you speak up, the better we will all get to know each other.

I think we all started out doing alot of reading.......

Tom I'm going to agree with you, this is not the only bbs that customers go to.You wouldn't beleive some of the chat rooms some poeple go to for help, even p/w.I went to one chat room and there was a guy on it that could answer anything,I didn't think no one could be that smart.

If they close the doors, they will lose members and I think some are smart enough to see that.If I have to pay to go to any bbs to give advice I want a monthly paycheck. Its my time,my free will to go to some of these bbs when I could be setting over there loving on my wife.I do not have to have a bbs to learn what I want nor does anyone with a pc or phone.I like the bbs because you can meet different people and I like the discussions some come up with.

Dan could start a chemical page for wholesalers to post their monthly specials only and get paid a percentage of what is ordered off his bbs.Only members could get in there with a # plus he could sale his own soaps and supplies that could be ship from the manufacture to your door. You see they are other ways to make money with a bbs instead off members.

I'm sorry to feel that way but see I'm not the only one.

I'm with ya'll. I do not believe this board will ever go strictly pay site. I do believe one day there will be some changes. I do believe, however, that ya'll don't understand the costs that are occurred in running a bbs like this and i do not believe it is fair to say, if it goes pay, i will not join. I believe all should do their part, whether it be facilitating this board, or financially supporting this board (donation wise, not pay site). I have argued this before with no avail, and i really don't know why i do, when the board owner isn't doing it. Guess i should just mind my own beezzzwax. "10-4, over and out."

we agree with mike, and we don't believe that will ever happen,Dan said he saw a need for a board where EVERYBODY COULD COME AND LEARN FROM EACH OTHER, we have never heard Dan ever ask for anything other than to keep it clean and professional and just don't advertise for your own gain, and try your best to give back what you get out of this Board. Now were not Speaking for Dan here, were saying what we know to be True, don't know how this even got started. But our opinion is it would be well worth it if he did charge a nominal fee, we get alot more out of this Board than some of the others we have visited. Some of them you even have to be a member to go places to learn different aspects of this business and pay 250.00 for a name and sticker. We have suggested that Dan start A new organzation Maybe PWAW- PRESSURE WASHERS AROUND THE WORLD, WHAT DO YOU THINK DAN.??? we have heard others say there not happy with the other one,and personally,I don't see having to be in the big and fancy building there in, I bet they pay 3-4000 a month in rent and it seems like a big waste of members money, seems like that would be enough money to have a board like this instead of some I have seen and IF we do decide to join anything I want smart and Responsable people to run it,We vote for DAN!!! and WOULD LIKE TO SAY IT NOW BECAUSE ITS NOT SAID ENOUGH THANKS TO DAN and all the MODERATOR ON THIS BOARD FOR THEIR TIME AND EFFORDS FOR BEING HERE TO HELP US ALL AND THE MEMBERS ALSO, AND GET NO PAY FOR DOING SO these are our thoughts and no disrespect to anybody,BUT WE ARE STAYING HERE.!!!!

Everyone is so great on this board and we all owe Dan and great big THANKS for using his idea in helping so may of us find our nice little home here.

Here is to you Dan

I think some of you miss the point here, no one said this whole board will become private or a pay to log in board.

What was discussed was one section only as private/pay for members only.

I don't think it was anyones intention to tell the guest and newbie's and others we don't want you here.

We do want them, I referred another to this board tonight and I am sure he either has or will join soon.

I still think we all can or should be willing to send a small check to Dan to help defy the cost of running this board.

Computers, power, software and other types of hardware that most don't need unless you are setting up a bbs are needed, they do break down, costing Dan $$ to repair or replace.

I doubt Dan would spend it to buy one of those Texas Cads! I mean can you just see him driving down the road with a Cad converted to a pickup with all his PW stuff on the back........

I offered to send a check and my offer is still good, if Dan tells me where to send it. ( just hold it till I say it is ok to depost)

Jim/Shirley,

Just to set something straight, the PWNA is run by a group of hard-working VOLUNTEERS, that do not get paid in any way for doing the work that they do. They are "smart, and responsible".......they are mostly contract cleaners, just like you and I.

There is one person who does get paid to run their office.......an office which the PWNA does not own, or rent..........but he also runs several other organizations. The PWNA does not spend the kind of money you are talking about.

The PWNA, while it is not exactly like the organization that is suggested to be formed here, has been a tremenodous help to me......the value of the meetings I have attended there has been priceless. The things I learned there, and the friendships that have been formed have been an amazing help to my business........more so then any BBS. Each has its place, but one does not replace the other.

I suggest you attend a meeting sometime and see for yourself.

Now I see the problem with the pwna. Now I understand why they get so much bad press. Mike board members are not being paid? why would there be any motivation for these folks to help members?
I’m talking about really helping members.

Sorry Ron, but I am not qualified to answer that question. If someone takes a postition, whether it is paid or not, shouldn't they do their best in that position? It is known ahead of time that it is not paid......so, if you can't accept that, you just don't do it. I don't see how money has anything to do with it......at all.

Mike ,

I m sorry, any organization that size needs people getting paid to give a real benefit to its members. When, I start and organization. I would want to pay every member and not take any money out of pocket to collect dues. Now is this reality when you’re trying to get things off the ground? No.

Talzaman,

No one is starting a private club here. Just trying to revolutionize pressure washing.

Dan,

Very well said, or typed, just want to be politically correct.

I joined this board to learn and to teach if I can in any way.

If I am going to pay to learn...I'll go back to college.

If I am going to pay to read... I'll subscibe to a magazine or buy a book.

If I am going to pay to look at pictures... I'll get one of the hoochie mama pay web sites.

Bottom line, I don't like to step on peoples toes or opinions, but, please, let's move on.

I guess I should look forward to my second full time year in this business so I can chuck some money away on something that I will eventually learn by experience. I sure that you guys doing this for a while did not have this board or anything like it when you were developing your businesses.

So if I have offended anyone, so sorry. I never say (type) much when I am on this board, but I feel that I have to put my 4 cents worth in.(inflation)

All I want to know is how to put itty bitty smileys in my posts.

Thanks for listening(reading)

Jordan,

There is a "smiles legend" that lists all of the available smiles. When you create a post, or a reply, click on the button with a smiley face on it, below where you input your ID and password......it is right next to the spell checker.

I believe there is max of 6 smiles in any one post. You just type these symbols [ ] with the name of the smile between them. They are the keys right next to the letter P on your keyboard.

Good luck.......is it

Mike,

In the quote you choose from our post to answer we never said anything about the PWNA, as a matter of fact that name was never even mentioned. We did talk about an orginizaiton called P W A W (Pressure Washers Around the World).

Like I also stated in that post I did not mean to offend anyone. I was just stating my views. These views are after almost a year of checking into the different orginizations and talking with the actual members of those orginizations, not just the ones that are trying to convience me to join.

Since you seem to know so much about the PWNA I would just like to know are you on board of directors? If so I have a lot of questions about them I would like to e-mail you directly since I have been unable to get the answers from the PWNA.

I will end this post again like I did before that THIS IS NOT MENT TO OFFEND ANYONE.....JUST MY THOUGHTS.

Hi Guys!

Although I do not post as much as some of you on this board. I just would like to add my thoughts here. I have been in the pw business for about ten years now. I was one of a small handful in my area at the time in this business. Which has now expanded greatly since. A young naive guy not knowing the potential rewards of the pw business. Pretty much learning as I go. Of course making many mistakes along the way, but learning from them just the same. Many times getting very frustrated and just wanting to leave it all. Than one day I decided to buy my first computer, not even knowing really how to use one. Fortunately, with a little help from some friends and a very user friendly computer...I entered the computer age.

Learning little by little I than became an online junkie. I was amazed with this whole internet thing. Finding a vast wealth of information...and crap on it. Of course I started to find information about the pw business that I could have never found in my local library. One site in particular...which I will not mention was very helpful to me in gathering information. I thought I found a gold mine at the time! I even found made some great friends from it.

My point here is this. Although, I do not like to see my competitors gather the same information as easily. This is still a fast growing business. And even if the information on these boards are more readily available. The fact of the matter is...I probably would not be here if it was. not It is also true that all the information in the world wont help if you do not know how to use it.

We all want to succeed here. This is a great board to gather and share information with one another. As long as we keep it professional and respect one another, we can all succeed. Hey! Maybe even make some lifetime friends along the way. This board is a great tool and should be used with respect and care. If we all do that...there should be no problem.

All the best to all!
