Not a thumbs down because you fear for you own livelyhood. If that is the case then your gig is flakey and maybe you sould go to work for someone else. :burn:

I am not in fear of my livelyhood, actually everytime someone that does not have a clue about flue cleaning starts up a new business (and there are plenty) that flops it adds to my credibility. Sure I may lose a few customers for a while, but they come back...and I have to charge extra to clean up the mess that was left by the unexperienced, unqualified, untrained guy. This guy in Florida, wanting to take on a chain that I have never heard of, sure I wish him luck and if he decides to do it I will help him where ever I can (wont affect me or my business). The point I was making is that flue cleaning is nothing like cleaning dumpster pads and sidewalks and knowledge of the mechanical, fire, Osha and health codes is manditory as is the correct insurance and some training (not some $16,000 Tennessee thing) by shaddowing a flue cleaner from some city outside of your area for a month will get someone a lot further than telling him yea go for it! and then laughing at him when he falls on his face.

If you want to give a "brother" a hand up, be honest with him. Don't suger coat or minamalize the importance of doing things correctly.

"Go for it" as advice on taking on a chain account with no KEC experience is about the stupidest thing I have heard.

I am IMPRESSED!

I am impressed at the number of people that are failing around you. I guess us monkeys just need to stay home now. By the way, do you wear a firemans hat to work?

I would

I always wanted me one of them firemans hats. Some of them big rubber boots too. I'd wear them and make sure I had clean underwear just like my momma told me to. That way when dat restaurant blows up and catches fire to the whole damn block, and there is dead bodies everwhere and I have to go to the hospitial, I'd at least have me some clean underwear on. Now that should be a prerequisite for cleaning vents and hoods. Yep, clean underwear in case you wind up blowin up a whole city block and going to the hospitial. Now wearin the firemans hat and boots, they will all think I am a complete professional and there aint no way this tragic event could be my fault. FIND MY CAR KEYS HELEN! WE GOIN TO CLEAN SOME VENTS AND HOODS, AFTER WE STOP OFF AT THE UNIFORM STORE THAT IS!!!!!!

the company that i'm a partner in has been doing pressure washing of vent hoods for over 12 years and it's not just something that you can casually pick up or experiment with over at your brother in-laws house one afternoon and then call yourself "ace vent hood cleaner"

we do a LOT of Chinese restaurants and other restaurants that many other companies can't or don't know how to do properly, and a lot of our work is from establishments that have gone with "mr.get-r-done" or "joe-low-bid" and all they got was the filters and hood rinsed off and the duct and exhaust fans have never been touched leaving an enormous fire hazard for the establishment.

i'm not saying that you can't do it or shouldn't get into the vent hood cleaning aspect of the business but you gotta get your ducks in a line before you try and bite off more than you can chew.

just do some research before you get in over your head is all i'm saying if your planning on being in this business for a long time other opportunities will come along just don't soil your reputation forever on your first big job.

however i wish you good luck in your business ventures.

You think any monkey could do it huh, you DO NOT know what you are talking about. I got out for 5 yrs & got back in 2 yrs ago & there is a hell of alot of changes. I have 3 rigs going 50 & 60 hrs every week. It's not powder blowers its people that don't know what they are doing out there & just doing hood washes not including leaving a mess & most doing a half ass job. I,ve got a good name in this biz, I am a licensed suppression system installer & installed well over a hundred hoods completely.

Without calling names I think 1 is better than the other but I find they are very self serving.I am not certified by any of those schools. I am a second generation individual with over 15 yrs experience in the fire & safety fields, liscened system installer & personally installed over 100 hoods completely. We cleaned hoods for about 6 yrs got out for 5 & back into it wideass open r 2 yrs ago. I am blessed with the fact my family owns a fire systems co. that does installs of everything from portables, suppressions, service & alot of hoods. I clean to bare metal if possible. Anybody out there that is a real gorrilla & not a monkey knows this is not always possible, even the guru would probally agree. You should know the "code" take the acess panels off & do what it takes to do it right. You have a fire they WILL definitely go after your ass. I recomend you be a LLC also. I'll talk to anybody, you can e-mail me or here's my office 3364926517, mobile3364061568. I am a greaser & keep greaser hours so heres my story & I'm sticking to it.Quote, what does chineese & dried buggers have in common? They look alot alike but chineese grease is more like dried liquid nail. Greasey
