Orlando

Mark I was trying to find out what different types of pressure washing machines are available in the orlando area. So I could decide what Pressure washer to buy and what distributor to buy from so I could utilize the service end if needed.

Just remember you will probably pay at least $1500 more to buy a machine locally.

That amount of money can pay for a heck of a lot of repairs.

I think you would be shocked how reasonable Marks prices can be, even factoring in shipping.

Just doing research to be sure what I decide to do is right for me! I still have a few months to go before I take the big leap! Learning all I can about the equipment and field. copgib

I would imagine that advice offered on these boards, or via phone between contractors, is always free.

Gib is right...gotta do the investigation, weigh all the factors, and make the decision that is right for you and your company! That's what is so great about these boards, and about experienced contractors who are willing to spend time on the phone and email to help someone who is just learning!

Mike: Are you still in the business? I thought you'd sold off all your equipment and closed up shop?

Ahh, I see. I'm sure you realize that in any sales business, people are going to shop, get information, compare prices, and make the decision they feel best fits their needs.

If I go into my local Dodge dealer and take up an hour of the salesman's time talking trucks, and test driving, etc, but then decide to buy a Ford, I wouldn't expect him to get mad at me for taking information from him and then not buying his truck.

and he shouldn't get mad. But...should he get mad if you knew nothing about trucks, or driving, or insurance, you went to him every day for weeks learning how to drive, where to get your drivers license, how to get auto ins., start the engine, drive it, change the oil, turn the steering wheel, put gas in it, etc. and he went there after hours specifically for you, very late at night to help you with anything and everything, then you went somewhere else to get a truck? I never said I was mad, just feel taken advantage of is more accurate.

What is wrong with a new guy learning everything he can before he takes the plunge?
I have done dozens of e mails with Hugh and never expected anything in return. Sure I may be able to line up a good deal on equipment for him, but that is not what it is about.
Don't feel taken advantage of Mike, just be happy knowing that you helped someone out so they do not get screwed over by some lying salesperson. Doesn't Landa have territorial rights to sales?

Ok Guys, It was my understanding that this board was to help guys like me learn from the ones that have the experience. Now I never signed any contracts with anyone, and never plan to and I alway kept my options open on what I finally do. Mike Cappa if you feel taken advantaged of I'm sorry but since I won't be getting into this field till next year, I have to keep my option open. Further more, I plan to still ask other professionals questions on all aspects of the field, because I feel I am not obligated to anyone individual. If you thought because I called you or you called me after hours to help with questions I had, in some way obligated me to you, then your unfortantely mistaken. I want whats best for me and I will again continue to ask any questions here that I feel I need to ask without obligation of anyone. So Mr Cappa, I am sorry you feel the way you do, and so I don't cause you any further pain, I will not ask you anything in the future! Rest asure of that! I do want to thank you for the assistance you did give me before and I can assure you I learned from our conversations. Thanks for your time! Hugh (copgib@earthlink.net)

I'm with Alan...I have been corresponding with Hugh for quite a while, and certainly don't expect anything in return. If I expected something in return, then I should in turn offer to compensate the many many others who have helped me along the way.

You're right, Hugh...that's what these boards are for...A place where everyone can learn and share.

Yes, landa has territorial rights. However, when I was helping out Hugh, I didn't work for Landa/Hotsy. That was when I started my own distributorship and that is when Hugh called me. I offered him my opinions on setups and such. He also began to ask me a plethora of questions in the field of contracting which I answered. Now, if I didn't have the distributorship and was just helping out a fellow contractor, that would be fine. But, in fact, he called me due to my distributorship. So why wouldn't I expect a sale if I gave all the info. I did. As for you Hugh, good luck in the biz, I am sure you will do well and will get someone to build you the rig you want at a half decent price. I do know that you won't get someone all inclusive as to the offer I made you. You know I was prepared to do everything start to finish, trailer, setup, lettering, delivery, and even training for a few days. I highly doubt you will find all that in one business. but if you do, great. If you come to me, great. But the price I quoted you no longer stands. Good Luck in the biz. Just so you know, I am not mad at anyone and hope everyone has a great year.

and to add, you guys as contractors. Would you go to a customer, explain how to do the job, in very lengthy detail (I mean over and above) to the point of the person now having complete knowledge of doing the job themselves, correctly and then they turn around and either do it themselves or higher someone else, when they have said to you "when I get this done you are the one who will be doing it". Would you be just a tad upset? I think you would.

No, that is over and above. I do thank him though. I will no longer give nearly that much info to anyone, until they purchase something. up until that point, they will get just the info on the machinery as pertains to the sale. anything else will come after. nothing personal, it's just business.
