Van Setup

Hi all. We run 2 vans with hot water skids, double stack hose reels and 230 water tanks. We have been in business for 10 years and unfortunaley had a fire in on e of the vans that the fire dept. thinks started by or near the battery for our machine. Has anyone ever heard of this? The van was inside doors open, alarm on nothing around it that had any spark. Luckily the sprinklers held the fire to the van and some other equipment and noone got hurt and the building did not burn down.

My second question is we are getting new truck and equipment and wanted to find out if anyone had a ny better van setups? especially how you exhaust your equip?

approx 1 foot behind seats we have the water tank (running width wise acroos van) about 1' behind that we have the skid and the reels are by left back door. We have a stack attached to the burner and a small exhaust inot the stack from the engine and vent mounted on the roof. I would like a flexible exhaust that fits snug to the burner.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. We are always looking to improve.

Thanks,
Eric

Did you ask why the FD thinks the battery or near the battery was the cause of the fire?

I have single wall pipe going to a piece of insulated stove pipe. Not triple wall, insulated pipe. It has been in place since 1999. You should be able to use adjustable stove pipe to make your bends. Do not use 90° bends, too much static pressure. Use Sweeping elbows. use at least 4 screws in each joint.

thanks

I am waiting for the written report but what the FD said is that the origin was definately in that area from the burn pattern and that is all i have gotten so far.

Thanks for the tips with the exhaust.

Try making a roller system which would allow you to pull the entire skid out the rear doors. This will allow everything to breath easyer and less heat build up. Plus it will make services and oil changes a snap.

Have you looked into the newer Sprinter vans?? They get some insane MPG plus they can hold lots of weight. Not to mention they are high roofed. I love making new units. In fact I have more fun fabbing than washing!!

Eric, Just curous about how much one of those JWS rigs would run? I imagine a lot would depend on the setup, but just looking at a ballpark. Also, I noticed you have it setup in a Frieghtliner (which I'm not a big fan of), would you be able to setup in any rig the customer would come up, say a Peterbilt 338, and same thing with the pump, as we rebuilt countless Cat pumps, but never had to rebuild a GP yet?

Thanks,
JZ

JZ, price range is about 15,000 for a small plain jane setup on up to around 35,000 for all the bells and whistles. Yes just about any truck will work as long as the trans has provisions for a PTO. We have done them in Freighliner, KW, Mitzubishi, Bering, International, and Izuzus.
