"A PWNA conversation"for members and non members

I heard that "Doc" Reisman is a sales rep for a hood cleaning co in Illinois. Having had a company that fell apart. Anyone else heard that?

Shouldn't the president of the Powerwashers of North America be a company owner who has developed and runs a successful company, like Mr. Detter who was the last president or am I just being nitpickey? He seems from his posts to be a nice enough guy, but having just heard his background would make me question his qualifications.

I'll give you something to dream about as to pop the whip below ya,"wouldn't it nice before you could buy ANY powerwasher you'd haveta show a card with the words PWNA stamped on it".

Life is more than grand, its more than just great, its a hell of a life :),

Merry Christmas to the world

No Larry it would not be nice to have to belong to pwna in order to buy a p/wer........... I know that will never happen but lets say it does ,,,,,, Then you will have all kinds of guys building their own.
Thats like saying you have to have the 666 on your forehead in order to buy a loaf of bread
........ This it not a comunist government..Opps can i say that?

Wouldnt want to offend anybody..............

This is AMERICA not GERMANY ...........Opps again !!

Uncalled For

johnny,

Why on earth would you even make that statement. Have you not read this post and seen how professional and straight forward he has been? Do you think he would have been elected to the Board of Directors and then reach the position of President without respect from his peers. Doc has left his numbers and e-mail in this thread for anyone to contact him, why wouldn't you call and ask him something like this privately? Why would you get on here and throw that out here without knowing the facts or the man? I will let Doc handle his own resonse as he sees necessary but, I wanted to voice my opinion. You should never judge people until you have walked many days in their shoes. For the record, in my opinion, Doc has had more success in this business than most, is still in this business, and probably does better financially than most guys on here with their own company. You mentioned Chris Detter, if you knew Chris Detter you would know he would and does SUPPORT Doc as President and the PWNA. This thread was about the PWNA, members, and non-members not anything personally. It is ashame if that is what this is turning into.

Larry L.

Your dream is about credibility. I think that is what the organization is working on and needs. I think with numbers that happens as well as recognition from other AHJ's. Actually , I had a dream last night...no I can't tell you guys about that!

Doc Reisman

PWNA President
Johnny,

I did sell my company and made a very handsome profit; I am not ashamed of this fact. Not owning my company (in my opinion) does not make me any less a part of this industry. I gave my word to the board (before selling my company) that I would fulfill my term; I kept my word.

I encourage anyone to talk directly to me, second hand information is rarely accurate.

So Everett..... You agree with the Dream?

You also think that you should not be allowed to buy a pressure washer if you are not a PWNA member.. E'gads!!

and If I read it right ....... This is what the PWNA is working on ......

Boy your member list should sky-rocket........... are you guys from the USA or what?

I guess sooner or later you will have to have a "card" to take a dump....... What a freakin world we live in !!

I have not had the time to really read all the posts on this topic. But I like the fact that an active president for our industry is taking the time to get involved with some of the bbs.

Hey Dan don't kick me out of that coffee meeting yet!

I don't mean it like that. I think it would be great to have credibility and recognition so that members can go to manufacturers and get discounts and offers for the dedicated contractor. Dan, you know my tone through this thread, it can be any organization that achieves this respect from manufacturers, distributors, government, whoever. My thing is that at some point this industry is going to need a voice on some issues. I am on an Environmental Committee for the Chamber of Commerce South Jersey. This year they are studying waterways and what and how chems and coatings effect the waters. This could effect my business big time. What if they come out with restictions that make me NOT want to clean or do decks and docks around water? I know that they won't listen to me. They may not listen to anyone. I would just like to be able to have a larger body to be able to have my back. That is what I meant by "working on", more recognition and credibility.

Dan, didn't you get any of that snow that came through?

As I have known Doc for a few years I'd have to stand inbehind him,his no dummy. It doesn't matter if he owns a horse ranch saling billy goats one doesn't haveta own a powerwasher to back a group.Matter fact they can do more for the trade than some of the ones owning a prowasher...hats off for Doc a great leader.

Dan ya cann't hire just any old Joe blow to wire ya house,in some places you cann't even do it yourself....their dream came true.

Alot of rumors goes around when openings come up for grabs, their past will be tested.Doc pasted his test years ago.........

Let it Snow

Yeah, you gotta make when you can with the snow. You guys seem to be getting all of it this year. It isn't coming past Philly or south of Trenton. I've never seen so much rain and water in years in Southern Jersey. Deer hunting, I was in water deeper and in places I never saw it in my lifetime. There were times I thought I was going to need a wet suit to get to the deer instead of boots.

Onecallpowerwash statesWe have learned that Clean County is really really really running for a board seat. We have learned that we live in a country that does not allow you to speak your mind or make the slightest comment without getting trashed and deleted.

All above true. I've been deleted here a few times over the past week or so which makes me reluctant to post here on this important thread. Also you are right I am running for a Board Position with the PWNA only because I was asked. I believe Jon from Oasis also might have been ask to along with some others. ITs a voluntary position which you have to take time out of your schedule to be present for a once a month conference call with the other BOD members to discuss PWNA matters.

I have always tried to post equally on most PW bb's that I go to and it never mattered if I was running for a position or not which is the reason why I have over 600 post here alone. If anyone thought I was just posting here only for me to put out there that I'm running then what were the other 600 post I put here for??

To be honest if I was never asked to run I personally would have been better off since I hold 2 fulltime jobs and my time is limited as alot of us here is.

What I do see is guys like Everett who owns numerous businesses and Doc who does well for himself volunteering there time to help make this PW community a better place for other Powerwashers. When I see that I started to think since I already have retired Health and soon to be Dental for my family why should I even bother to volunteer any of my time to help the PWNA get benefits for its members when these guys are doing it.

Then I got a couple of phone calls to see If I would be willing to volunteer to help out with the PWNA. ITs tough to turn down a group that really is and I mean REALLY with capital letters, trying to help out the fellow powerwashers. Thats is the way I see this and I'm sure to some they may think I'm crazy since I really have nothing to gain personally and others who think that I have a hidden agenda or why else would I be doing this.

The only answer I can come up with is to Volunteer some time and this is a major sticking point with others who say if I pay $195/yr why should I do anything when I don't feel I get enough for my Money. Not only am I paying $195/yr but now I am going to Volunteer. Doesn't seem to make sense but it seems to be the best and easiest way to make the PWNA grow.

If I wasn't asked I wouldn't be running but since I was asked I felt obligated to put my money where my mouth is kind of thing. Put up or shut up way of mind I guess you can phrase it as.

One more thing Dan Flynn stated that its nice to see a guy like Doc who is the PWNA president get involve here by answering these post on the bb. I agree a 100% but would like to add that the past president Chris Detter also did the same. These type of guys/gals are the future of the PWNA. Just look at Mike Hughes and Beth Borrego to book end Everett and Doc. All active bb people.

Post I added on Beths bb:
I'm back reponding to this thread on PWN. Some may say its not wise since I'm running for a BOD postion within the PWNA but more important to me is to keep the PWNA on peoples minds so they can formulate there own opinions.

As far as the BOD positon goes Its purely a volunteer position. Personally there is no gain for me to take that position since I have most benefits that I will ever need(retired health and soon to be retired Dental to go along with my active Health and Dental). To be perfectly honest though it was tough to turn the PWNA down when a few individuals asked me if I would consider on running for a BOD position. The conclusion that I came to at that point was this and this may be tough for some to swallow.

Yes I pay $195/yr to be a member but that is not enough to help the PWNA reach its goals. So what is it that they really need??Volunteers!!! That is the key!!! Some will like that conclusion where others will be thinking this guy is nuts because not only is he paying membership dues but he is volunteering himself to boot. Must be an IDIOT!!

The answer really is to volunteer because the money is not and will not pour into this organization and without Money they will be STAGNANT.....unless they can find VOLUNTEERS. Going this route can eventually bring in the members and the $$$$$.

Tough to absorb this and it was extremely tough for me to reach this conclusion because like I stated I do have myself pretty insulated with benefits but there really is no other "Rock Solid" way to boost this organization at least I can't at this time think of any other "REALISTIC" way.

Other thoughts would be greatly appreciated on this.

You did the PWNA a favor John.

The deleted started when the Nazi post started
You succeded in your request.

My personall feelings ..... If you couldnt handel a debate like this and jump all over somebody (me) for things that really was not there ....Then You are not ready for a position ... and thats why I said you did them a favor.

Christmas does come early

Merry Christmas John...and I hope you have the best year of your life...........

First I want to wish everyone a Happy and SAFE Holiday season.

I just wanted to say, that several years back I too was... disenchanted with PWNA. But, I made apersonal decision to try to help out in the industry, and this was before I was ever asked to run for the BOD. You may remember Blastmaster Magazine. I loved writing for them. It was my own way of trying to help. Well, when BlastMaster went away and I was asked to run, I decided to go for it. I had no idea if I would be elected, and no idea what to expect when I was. I remember going into the first BOD meeting in Las Vegas and feeling like someone had finally turned on the lights. I got to see what went on behind the scenes, and I learned that yes, the BOD members really do sit down and work on issues and discuss what people who are both members and non-members alike bring up. I was very glad to see that no one mentioned names, no one said anying inflamatory, everything was about ideas and which ones would be best for the organization. No one came into that room with anything less than the goal of making the PWNA the very best it could be. In fact, all the conference calls are that way too. There is an agenda, we stick to it, and we work through it with focus. I'm proud to serve on the BOD of the PWNA. And it's fair to say, that each and every person on the BOD is worthy of respect, because everyone on the BOD has made contributions. Not all are into BB land, but they work just the same.

Have a wonderful Holiday! :)
Beth
